This Wild Place: a Column for the Telluride Times

If you ask any person in our community what brought them to the region, it's very likely that they'll say something about nature. The vast mountains, the proximity to desert places, our incredible night skies and ecosystems and animal life- all of these inspire our unanimous appreciation.

And yet, there are so many curious natural dynamics that we wonder about regularly but don't understand.

That's why I began This Wild Place, addressing the unfathomable and weird and wonderful nature around us. We're lucky to have many interesting experts around us in Southwest Colorado, too- folks who have spent their lives studying, managing, and marveling at this place. I'll be profiling many of them, and I address readers' natural world questions as well. It’s been a pleasure to write and research this recurring column and I welcome your feedback, questions, and topical ideas.
